BDO LLP announces new Independent Non Executive

BDO Global AccountantAccountancy and business advisory firm, BDO LLP, has appointed a new Independent Non Executive (INE) to advise its Leadership Team.

Simon Figgis has a distinctive mix of accountancy and business advisory experience. Joining KPMG (then Peat Marwick) in 1977, his career spanned audit, corporate finance, transaction services and litigation support advice. When Simon retired from KPMG earlier this year, he was Head of Audit Quality and Risk Management, overseeing quality in 19 countries across Europe and the Middle East. He has led significant global audits including FTSE 100 companies across various sectors, such as consumer and industrial markets, aerospace and defence and business services.

Simon will work alongside BDO’s existing INE, Lesley MacDonagh, who is former Managing Partner of law firm, Lovells. Lesley has been BDO’s non executive director (NED) since 2008, before the Financial Reporting Council introduced compulsory NEDs for large accounting firms. Together, they will work with the firm’s leadership team on the further development of its business and its governance procedures.

Simon Michaels, Managing Partner, BDO LLP said:

We continue to raise the bar on quality, build on our merger to lead the mid market and maximise opportunities from the Competition Commission investigation. Simon has much to offer to support our efforts in these areas.

Simon Figgis, newly appointed Independent Non Executive at BDO LLP, added:

The accountancy industry has shifted considerably in the last five years. BDO has a real opportunity in a world of tendering, international focus, quality and the continuing requirements to deliver exceptional client service. My varied experience, which marries audit quality, risk management, sector focus and advisory understanding, fits well with BDO’s ambitions and its continuing focus on quality.

Simon’s appointment will commence on 1 October 2013 and will ensure BDO complies with the requirements of the Audit Firm Governance Code. It follows BDO’s former INE Lord David Currie’s move to become Chair to the Competition and Markets Authority.
